Solar Thermal: How It Works Linear Concetrator Systems        Parabolic Dish        Solar Tower Parabolic Dish A Parabolic Dish is a stand alone unit, where a parabolic reflector concentrates the sunlight onto a receiver at the reflector’s focal point. The receiver contains a heat-transfer fluid, which is heated to generate the steam that powers a generator (with the Stirling engine being the most common). The dish is mounted on a tracking system that follows the sun during the day to optimize output. These units are easily scalable and provide the highest solar-to-electric efficiency among Concentrated Solar Thermal devices, but produce the lowest electricity output per device. |
