Solar Thermal: How It Works

Concentrated Solar Thermal (CST) is used to produce heat or electricity through the use of mirrors or lenses and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small area. The concentrated light is then used as heat or as a heat source for a power plant. CST systems vary by their methods of collecting solar energy, with the three most common systems being the Linear Concentrator, Parabolic Dish and the Solar Power Tower.
