Wave Power: How It Works: Limpet

Limpet        Oceanlinx

Limpet
The Land Installed Marine Powered Energy Transformer is a shoreline device which contains an open-bottomed chamber with a Wells turbine mounted on an opening in the chamber top. As waves fill the chamber, the air that was in the chamber is pushed out of the hole on top, passing by the turbine. As the wave recedes, air is pulled back through the hole, again passing the turbine, helping to empty the chamber. The turbine generates electricity continually, with the level of output dependent on the characteristics of the waves filling the chamber.
