Biodiesel: Who's Involved [U.S.]
Africa       Americas (Ex. U.S.)       Asia       Australia       Europe       U.S.
As of March 11, 2009, there were 193 biodiesel production facilities in the U.S. ranging in capacity from less than 1MGY to 105MGY. Nearly all of the plants have a capacity below 50MGY, many of which are tailored to meet the feedstock supply of the owner/co-op. These plants are typically run by farm co-ops, which use soy oil as the key feedstock. With the price of soy oil required to produce one gallon of biodiesel exceeding market prices, many of these smaller facilities are closing due to a lack of funding or a move to sell the soybeans into the open market for prices greater than what could be generated by selling biodiesel. As a result, it appears that the large scale producers capable of utilizing multiple feedstocks will be best suited to succeed. All plants with a capacity equal or greater to 50MGY are included below.
